I thought it might have gone out when MIB was thrown into it. Perhaps the light was keeping the darkness (Smokey) at bay. Or perhaps Smokey was just hiding and pretending to be light, but could be released if someone ventured in there?
They talked about the cave/light as being "the source", bringing up all sorts of symbolism!

I think that Locke saw this same light, but I'm not sure how. It's important to remember that the light was still there when Ben and Locke turned the Donkey Wheel.

Yep, I think this was the light Locke referenced when he met Smokey and most likely where he would have been taken when Smokey grabbed him if Jack hadn't thrown the dynamite.

yeah... i was wondering what would've happened if Jacob went into the light. somehow i think the same thing would've happened, though.
