News coming in re: FF renewal is not what we wanted
News is now coming in that FlashForward is not being renewed for a second season. This series had a lot left to show us and if only a portion of what I think I uncovered was going to be used, the series had a fantastic story to tell. My advice to David S. Goyer and Brannon Braga is to steer clear of the networks as they are quite fond to eat their young. First Threshold at CBS and now FlashForward at ABC. Great concepts that were aborted before the true tale could be told. The cry from both shows was the same to the networks of "You don't understand what you are doing."

Re: News coming in re: FF renewal is not what we wanted
Just saw this when I went to search for recaps.
No 2nd season.
I just hope we will get some sort of an ending and are not left totally hanging as has been done too many times.
Network execs just don't get it......many are now not willing to invest in any series until they are sure it will continue.
......and the audience keeps shrinking.
edit*
We knew the hiatus would sink this series.
Why didn't the execs?
Re: News coming in re: FF renewal is not what we wanted
I am going to have to give up on the big 3 networks and stay with Fox and CW. Heck Vampire Diaries is doing worse than FF, but they are getting a second season. Geez, renew V, which has not got a snowballs chance in hades of delivering a good story and kill FF.
Re: News coming in re: FF renewal. Not what we wanted to hear
I watch V but do not see a deeply thought out mythology as I think FF has. FF was years in the making and the story tapestry was expertly thought out by the creators. I hope they are able to get out the word on what was planned because it would have been fun to see what is being currently woven (if I was anywhere close to it) to be explained. It was nothing short of brilliant and I say this knowing the series hasn't been perfect in its delivery. It was getting its running legs under it like any first season needs and with Lost completed those fans will drift off now.
We were seeing retrocausal time loops beginning to manifest and later become linked to each other into a large loop in history that would ultimately break out in a huge and wonderful reveal. All of that potential is lost now with the network decision to cancel. What a waste for most likely one of the best created stories that will now never be told. What they had planned with the Antikythera Mechanism would have been a major plot element and we never even got to see it develop. We only got a glimpse of the potential of a cool fictional use of a real and extremely interesting artifact.

Re: News coming in re: FF renewal is not what we wanted
I wonder how many wonderful shows never would have made it with the standards in place today. I know some "classic" shows had rough starts. The network really doomed FF from the start with 2 things:
1. 8:00 EST start (7:00 Central). That was too early of a start for a show like this. I can't be the only mom trying to get children to sleep, dishes in the dishwasher, and laundry folded at the 8:00 hour. The 8:00 spot had historically been used for "family hour" where more grown up shows, like FF would have a 9:00 or even a 10:00 start time.
2. Hiatus, for both FF and V (although I am not a big fan of V) should never have been started, then taken off the air for 2 months. It would have been better to start them both in March.
FF was really the ONLY network show that I watched, and that is no exaggeration. When FF wasn't on, my television would be on the Travel Channel, Discovery, or the History Channel. After this stunt, the networks won't get me back again.
I do hope FF can be picked up (by someone other than HBO as we don't have that). It just seems a waste all the thought that went in to the show. I am actually quite sad and I feel a bit betrayed. This show was never designed to be a "pilot" type of show. Either you commit to the series or don't. We all went into this show (the fans, the people behind FF and the network) knowing this was a long term commitment. I really feel the network broke some handshake deal we all made with each other - I give you my time and watch your ads, you give me FF. I kept up my end of the deal and the network didn't.

Well said. I too am done with the "big" (in their own minds only) networks.

Re: News coming in re: FF renewal is not what we wanted
And the problem with renewal, after the network has already expressed it's disappointment - people feel the impending doom and don't want to become attached to something that could be snatched away from them once again. ABC completely missed the boat here and the summer replacements look abysmal.
LOST
for Z - well, we actually don't have a space station

And that is why Mark began drinking again. I rest my case.
