Where have we seen the island destroyed before.... oh right!
The Flash-Sideways! Does anyone think that this link between the two could have significance? They MUST want to sandwich the show with the Island sunk in one way or another. LOST is all about symmetry.

I have no idea how it would manifest itself though.

I thought that same thing when I heard that. There has to be some way for them to more officially connect the two realities together other than flashes.

Is this the revelation that the Alternate timeline is the end result of Flocke's plan? Maybe destroying the island causes the alternate timeline?
