...that Shannon did not suffer any abuse or other horrible events in her past, will the NAILSers still defend her? I'm just wondering, since there is a lot of speculation on this board that Shannon has had an abusive or otherwise terrible childhood, but there has - up to this point - been no or little evidence of that.
What if she is just a vincentA because that is who she is? Will she still have defenders? This is not intended to offend, I really am curious if it is essential for Shannon to have abuse (or other bad events) in her past in order to excuse her behavior on and off the island.

Re: IF Shannon's flashback ep reveals
Of course we will still support her. I loved Shannon from the first episode I saw, and it had nothing to do with the fact that she might have had trouble in her past. She is just an amazing character.
I'll still like her. But I don't necessarily think abuse has to be in her past anyway. However, I do think we will learn that her past wasn't the happiest since none of the other characters have had pleasant pasts either. IMO, Shannon definitely has issues with lowering her defenses, and that's the cause of her vincenty behavior. She doesn't like showing her weaknesses, and she hurts others before they can hurt her. It's bad behavior, but it has to come from somewhere. I've never met anyone who was just that way for no reason. Not to the extreme that Shannon is anyway.

This is, again, entirely speculation. We haven't seen any evidence of these motives at all.
I DO know people who had very good upbringings but whose families were so indulgent that they lacked any self discipline in their lives as adults and so did go around seeing everyone as pawns in a frivolous game.
I think it'd be really hilarious if Shannon's entire flashback consisted of her at a spa getting shiatsu massages and shopping.

That's why I said "IMO," Andrea. Not everything that's placed on these boards is going to have a mile-long list of evidence. People infer things from the characters' behavior all the time, and sometimes those inferences are right, sometimes not. That was simply my take.
My opinion regarding her past being more than trips to the spa and shopping is based on the clear fact that all of the characters up to this point have been shown to be multi-layered and/or not what they first appeared. I suppose they could play with us and make Shannon as shallow as the day is long, but that really doesn't seem like it would be all that interesting to watch in the long run, and I hope they don't do something like that.
I liked Shannon from the first episode, and I'd LOVE it if Shannon had some more snarky lines.* I'd like Shannon to be a little bit of a bitca every now and then (I don't want another Cordelia situation on our hands).* Will I defend her actions?* If I feel that what she did wasn't wrong, of course.* Do I feel conning Boone was wrong?* Yes, and I've never said that was okay.*
All of the characters are flawed and make mistakes (I know everyone understands that), and that's what makes them so human.* As Pernice pointed out, most of the characters have proven to be different from what they appear to be via their POV flashback .* It would be odd, IMO, for the writers to not do something similar for Shannon in her POV f/b.* I wouldn't mind seeing Shannon acting like a total bitca for old time's sake again, though...
How dull would the lives of sanctimonious good girls be if they didn't have the vicarious lives of bad girls to consume so much of their time and energy?

But hopefully we'll see.
i have met someone who's vincenty just for the sake of being vincenty. Her family also had money. She just thought she was better than anyone on the face of the earth. I know of no abuse in her past. She's just that way on her own.

I think we have all met people like this.
I also think it is a mistake to believe they are the way they are, on their own. They (and you and me) are who they are because that is what their life made them.
