Talk about being manipulated. After all season of being strung along and being promised by the writers themselves that we would finally get some answers in the finale followed by a "who shot J.R." ending", I can only say that I am appaled by what I just watched. We learned nothing other than that there appears to be a few hillbillies patroling the Island on a run down motor boat. Hardly the stuff that will keep anyone talking around the water cooler let alone thinking about the show during the summer. At this point, I am ready to give up on the show. I have spent twenty five hours of my life watching this show not to mention countless hours on these boards looking for some clue as to why they are on the Island, how they got there and who else is there with them. At this point we know little, if anything, about these questions. It is now clear to me that we are never going to get any real answers just bits and pieces followed by more questions never giving us any satisfaction.
They promised we would see a portion of the monster, yet, all we saw was black smoke. They said we would learn about the numbers in the last ten minutes of the show, yet, all we learn is that the plane's gate was 23, that a couple of soccer players were wearing the number on their shirts and that Hurley's car was traveling at 23KMH. We already have seen enough cute references to the numbers at this point. How about giving us some clue as to what the numbers mean as previosuly promised. How about showing us what's in the the hatch instead of waiting to the last five minutes of the show to show us that there it is a tunnnel underneath it. Maybe the writers will spend all of next season preparing to send a search team to explore the tunnel only to end next season showing the tunnel coming to a dead end wall. How exciting! Where was Anna Lucia? Where was Rose? Where were the tail section survivors? What, if anything, contributed to the plane going down? None of these issues were answered let alone addressed. We are just being strung along like we have all season and the same thing will happen next season. If the writers were not going to give us anything meaningful tonight, we are never going to get any real answers. Tonight was the writers chance prove they could give the loyal viewers intelligent answers while still not ruining the plot and msytery of the show. There was alot riding on the finale and I think the writers misreably failed.
I admit, I am little disappointed. But I don't remember there being an confirmation that there would be tail end survivors, that's just what people assumed.
yeah, i'm not quite ready to jump ship just yet but for the first time since this began i'm looking at the water * i hope i get at least one concrete answer to one of the major island mysteries early in the next season
WTF?? r u serious?? dont believe every spoiler that gets posted.. if we found out every answer to all the questions we have, then why would there be a reason for a season 2 and onward??
Yeah...people are REALLY confusing spoilers with actual things that the creators promised us.
Frankly they didnt' promise us ANYTHING! Nowhere did it say that we would see the tail section! The only think they said was that the finale would be shocking! (and that's obviously up to interpretation)
All the stuff that was supposed to be revealed...came from spoilers...and those are not always accurate.
If we get all the answers now, what will become of the show next season?
Unless you want something where we get answers right now, and then the writers have to make up some new mysteries, which will give us something farfetched and incoherent...
Personnally, I'd rather something well planned, where we learn things little by little....
And if you don't want to be disappointed, maybe you shouldn't read the spoilers (or don't even go on the boards) as apparently they make you expecting too much.
Personnaly, I expect nothing, I just go with the flow, and nothing has disappointed me yet... nothing. It is just the best thing I've ever seen on TV, period.
There were PLENTY of answers... they just weren't obvious.
We saw more of the monster than just the Black Cloud. *Part of a mechanical grabber arm could be seen pulling Locke towards that hole. *Also, the Black Cloud is clearly related to the infamous 'flying carpets' from the Pilot
We finally saw the Others in person. *We know that they wanted Walt, not Alex, and that they have the capability to leave the island if they so choose.
It is clear that Ethan was not one of the Others, but was instead allied with Danielle, trying to get the baby for her to trade.
We were not promised any answers about the numbers at all; what Lindeloff said was that the last 30 minutes were an 'Easter Egg' hunt for the numbers. *There were many more number references than what you listed.
If you didn't like the episode, that is your perogative, but we were in no way 'lied to'.
Also, I wanted to add that for me the most interesting thing in the show is the characters... the mysteries are some sort of icing on the cake...
If the characters were not well written and played, I would have have stopped watching a long time ago.
And any writer woud tell you (except maybe Dan Brown, but I have trouble calling him a writer) the first thing a story needs to be good is to have good characters.
You know, I read the spoilers and took them with a grain of salt, but I was just generally disappointed with the episode itself. It just didn't have the bang that the "Creators" said it would have. I loved the direction the show was going initially, but something seemed to just go south, being a former X-file fan I get weary of a show that builds up all these questions and with the answers you do get, it turns into more questions and snowballs from there.
