Now that we know more about 'Kate'

All the passangers of 815 died or lived with recoverable injuries (exception man sucked into engine) and The Marshal
Could a quick thinking con artist have inflicted the shrapnel injury? Then played good guy or what ever putting mask on him

For some reason I doubt that.

Re: Now that we know more about 'Kate'

I think it would be hard to jam that piece of metal through somebody's body (especially through his shirt and probably his suit jacket as well. It wasn't a pointy piece, it was a long, flat-edged piece that was driven into his body. I won't rule it out, though. If a person wrapped it with a shirt or something, raised it up over their head with both hands, and brought it down with all their force, they might be able to do it.

It was Kate who put the mask on him. Are you suggesting that Kate killed the Marshal by shanking him with a piece of wreckage? That's actually pretty clever.

If she was trying to kill him, she probably would have stuck it in his neck rather than his abdomen. Maybe she was just trying to injure him so that she could escape? :undecided

ETA: While the edge was flat (because they couldn't really stab Fredric Lane with a piece of shrapnel), I think it was intended to be a 90 degree corner that was stabbed about 3 inches into his body. Screencap. I think Kate could have done that (physically speaking).

Kate maybe physically able to do the but from what we've seen she has an adversion to blood. I'f she really wanted to kill him, the neck would have been a better choice. She also had the gun, later on and permission from the Marshal to put him out of his misery. When we first see Kate is isn't near the wreckage, which brings up other questions.

I wouldn't put it past the writer's but my feeling is that Kate didn't do it, but someone might have.

I don't think the marshal was seen near the wreckage initially either, but maybe I've overlooked it.

I don't really think she stabbed him either, but it's a neat possibility.

Re: Now that we know more about 'Kate'

We don't see where the Marshal was found. The first time we see him Jack is already with him.

More about Kate. in Walkabout, when Kate is going to climb the tree to put up the antenna
Michael says something to her about climbing the tree and she says "Don't worry, I've climbed a lot worse."

If she wanted to kill him, then why in the world would she put his oxygen mask on him?

Thank you! I don't think Kate is as bad, horrible and evil as she would have us believe, but that's me. She's my fav character. LOL

In all honesty, I don't think she did shank him. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't she hand-cuffed to the seat? IF she was, how would she have gotten loose to get the piece o' plane without the Marshal catching her? She was in the middle seat and he was on the isle. She would have had to climb over him to get that piece o' plane.

Hmmm, thought just came to me...maybe she put the mask on first and then the shankin' happened. Still don't think she shanked him.

First off I'm a huge Kate fan. She did get the handcuffs off. She couldn't get the oxygen mask on and gave up and got the keys for the handcuffs out of the Marshal's jacket. Then put the oxygen masks on both of them.

Kate would be capable of doing something like stabbing the Marshal but not when he was unconsious. She'd do it in a fight. Also, in the end, the Marshal sought comfort from Kate, he wanted her to end his pain, she couldn't do it.

I believe there is a strong emotional past between Kate and the Marshal. The flip side of love is hate and I believe the Marshal loved Kate at one time.
