So Locke, et al. are starting a bit of a cult aren't they?
Locke told Hurley that he's trying to get people to come down and push the button without really telling them why or what's going to happen if they do or don't. He in a way has convinced Charlie a bit with the whole record player comment.

This is going to get even more interesting...
I thought he meant not telling them why or what will happen because no one knows why or what will happen if they don't. I didn't take it that he was keeping some big secret. But he did grab Charlie with the record player comment.

Well Jack told Hurley not to talk about the food. I know that the food is more important to the other survivors more so than the pushing of the button. But didn't they say in a previous episode that they really weren't going to talk about what's going on down there. I'm sure they need more people to do the shifts. Everyone's going to get tired soon, so I'm thinking they're "recruiting" people to do so.
I did think Locke's comment seemed a little manipulative. It may be as simple as his being pleased to have triumphed over Jack and "science". Then again, there could be something more sinister. Knowing Locke, possibly the latter.
Hmmm...interesting that Locke recruited Charlie because he asked. Hurley recruited Rose because she didn't ask. Makes you wonder doesn't it, what will happen when it's Charlie's turn to do his job. Rose was great!
*beats Baileysdad with a fish biscuit forty times*
At least Locke was open to Charlie to share qualified information to settle Charlie's anger at being left out. I left that was an excellant calming thing to do, especially after Charlie's former outburst.
Poor Hurley, he was SO afraid of Jack's orders he could not even tell Charlie at first. Later he had to turn down Charlie's plea for peanut butter. I am so glad that Hurley trusted Rose's judgement to share the food knowing it was the right thing to do. I also, would like to note that Hurley was prepared to take a stand against Jack. Maybe this is a turn for the good as other castaways start making their own decisions for the good of the group.
