We've seen these characters for awhile now...all of them have eaten or built something in front of us. Who primarily uses their left hand? Should answer the question of who killed Shannon real quickly...assuming that one screencap we have is actually of the killer holding their weapon.
Then I am not convinced this person is holding a gun. The screencap is difficult to measure by, but when I watch it on my DVR copy it clearly does not look like a gun in that left hand.
Also, not that clear from the screencap, in that scene I can see the edges of what I think is AL's weapon-ish thing (with rope covered handle) that she carries on her left side all episode. I had to watch it a couple of times, but the edges are visible. That person is AL. That doesn't mean she shot Shannon necessarily...it just means it is her standing there.

I concur. I have had to revise my opinion also after watching the episode....my observation was based on caps and reading the initial thread debates over whether Ana did in fact shoot Shannon. My bad really. Seeing the supposed gunhandle move like fabric discounted the left handed killer theory but does not discount the 'another killer' theory. I still do not believe it to be Ana.
Spoiler:
If the writers knew she was going to die from the beginning it is to crappy to make her death a whooppsie daisy on Anas part just to instigate complications into a merger of the 2 groups.
I think Sawyer is left handed. When Sayid threw him the apple (Tabula Rosa?), he caught it with his right hand. But he had the pipe in his left hand when he hit the boar and he chopped the bamboo with his left hand in Exodus. (He seems to chop wood right handed.) In the scenes where he points a gun, he has the gun in his left hand though.
Being left-handed is not germane. If it was Ana, she certainly realized that she shot the wrong person, and she knew the gun was empty, so when she dropped her arms from firing-position she simply held the empty gun in her left hand. Remember, the gun would not appear 'normal' since the round barrel would be protruding several inches from the rectangular slide since the slide was locked back in reload position. I was able to brighten and enhance my screen while I watched the scene in digital super-slo-mo and although I could not testify in court that the thing in the left hand 'absolutely' was a gun, I would say that, in context, it certainly looked like one...
Going to revise what I've said in other threads about not seeing Sayid/Shannon and Ana/tailies in same scene (agreed with original poster of this) but that clearly is Ana's arm. Don't know that she's holding the gun in her left hand - doesn't look like it.
