Tailies Radio Question

Is there a reason that the radio that the tailies had didn't pick up Danielle's distress call? Does it have to do with frequencies or something?

in the first season episode when they initially pick up the signal you will notice that it took some frequency tweaking. the answer is yes. french chic's signal is very strong because it is coming from the island, but you have to tune into it to pick it up. distress signals, airplane radios and the like all use seperate FM signals.

also the radio that was discovered by the tailies looked a lot like it had walkie talkie features which would suggest that it would have a direct frequency tie in to the plane radio frequency. it didnt seem that a lot of tweaking was done. if i remember correctly (and I might not because I was on my 4th beer by then) Barnard simply pushed the button and was broadcast directly into the plane radio.

to listen to Danielle's distress call would require surfing the ban...much like scanning on your car radio

Do you think then, that the radio the Tailies found was actually from the Nigerian plane? Perhaps that is why it was tuned into the planes frequency?

Maybe it belonged to someone on the ground awaiting the delivery of the loaded virgins?

...Although I'm not sure whether Nigerian drugrunners accept deliveries to, eh, remote islands.

Re: Tailies Radio Question

But did Ana pick up the radio again after the fight with Goodwin? Does she still have it?

This is something I was looking at and I figure yes. The fight with Goodwin was BEFORE the Boone transmission occurred. It didn't work at all before Goodwin and Anna went up on the mountain. Where is it now is the best question? It's not on anyone's body hanging. It's got to be in one of the sacks they are carrying. If not, why wouldn't they bring it along.

Another point, didn't they find the radio tower after Rousseau told them about it? Did Sayid change the message being sent out, or am I losing it?

I think that the radio was taken from the Nigerian plane crash. As was the glass eye (the dead "priest" had one eye) and the bible. Whoever was in the bunker collected it all from that crash...or so I suspect. If the Tailies cracked open the walkie talkie, it would likely and immedidately send/recieve signals from the planes radio...

Good idea. I hadn't thought about the stuff being from the nigerian plane but it makes sense.
