I mean, as some people have said before, this show is moving way too slowly for casual fans.
Too many secrets are still out there unresolved, and there aren't enough cliffhangers or conflicts to satisfy those of us that post here.
And also, there aren't enough clues and easter eggs as there were before.
Now, it's debateable if a clue is actually a bona-fide clue, a continuity error or similar mistake.
It's about time each episode went a little faster, and by that I mean more action per episode.
Any comments? Agree/disagree?
I disagree. I think the show is moving way too fast. All of my friends and relatives who watch the show like this season a lot better than the first. They are interested in the characters, their lives and interactions. I don't think people really subsist on the little details- they're just nice treats to toss in every once in a while. I for one whish the episodes would slow down and give us a chance to see more characters. I love the episodes that have one or two great scenes for each character, and loads of backstory...
I think you may be right about losing casual fans. But if they are casual watchers are they really fans? I've seen every episode from the begining and one of my favorite elements has to be the character development. I think some people get really into the mystery of the island and why they are there, but a lot of the mystery is who these people are. On a side note, Twin Peaks wouldn't have sucked so bad in the second season had the mystery not been solved. I will watch Lost until the last episode, whenever that is.
Reading your post a thought occurred to me. I'm tired of people complaining about the show not being what it used to be (not just you...other posts too). My thought was...no wonder divorce is rampant in this country (well, the world, really). The thrill of what's new and shiny...the honeymoon period, if you will, is gone. And we all love shiny and new. But like any relationship, things change. Grow. After the honeymoon, the glow may be gone. That's when you get into the nitty gritty of the relationship. Really getting to know the other person. The relationship deepens. If people could just stick it out through this period, then the love actually grows...and the radiance and glow actually can get brighter!
The same with Lost. The new and shiny is gone. We're getting into the depth of the story line. I wish people would just settle in and enjoy their relationship with Lost. Enjoy getting to know all the intracacies of the characters and the plot line. Perhaps soon we can appreciate it on a different level.
I think it's moving just fine. They've solved some mysteries from last season and have created a new set of questions. Plus, we are getting much deeper into character development, which I think is crucial to keep the show interesting - if they become just stereotypes, the show will lose a lot.
What I do find a bit frustrating is the uneven distribution of the backstories - we know LOTS about some people but very little about others (I personally wish we could have a Rose and Bernard flashback and another for Claire). That's my only criticism.

Totally with the hatchgirl! I'll keep watching unit the last ep. (I don't have a life anyway )
To me, the faster it goes, the sooner it's over.. and I don't want it to end...I DO want to know where Desmond has got to though....
I've mentioned this before, but last season, although great, didn't exactly light it up action wise all the time. We had some pretty slow episodes, featuring some exciting plotlines like "Sawyer chases a boar," "Jack tries to covince people to move to the caves," and "somone stole all the water." This season is moving way faster than last. I think people just get frustrated because the show is so good and they want more, more, more.
I personally think a lot of ground has been covered in the first 7 epsiodes of season 2. Last season pales in comparison.
Edit: Also wanted to mention that Lost finished #6 last week. Not exactly falling off the charts.

Okay, I think I'm done.
And by the way, I'm one of the people who are disappointed in the fact that roughly half of all marriages in the U.S. end in divorce
But seriously, I do agree that they should have backstories on more people (I'd love to see the Bernie/Rosie thingy, it'd be great to show interracial marriages on primetime; give the topic some air time and thus mainstream credibility), but the caveat of that is then in effect they'd be making all characters with backstories major characters
I think I already heard JJ say in that 20/20 ep that the show at the beginning of last season was groundbreaking already to have such a dynamic and numerous cast of main characters
