So...
From last week's, this is next, right?
What have we learned since first airing from this one.?
Any special clues to keep our eye(s) out for?
etc.
Let's review..
They talk about Goodwin and Jin finds his body..the shoeless "Others" lurch past...interesting things...
It's early...that did happen in that episode right?
Oh yeah....
I thought it strange when Eko refered to Goodwin like he had been a passenger.
Just what i had thought at the time i suppose.
And oh yeah!
The infamous close-up of the feet
and the teddy bear!
Oooooooooooooooh....
hehe
What else? Hmmmmmmmmmm...
Don't have the DVDs YET.

Is it just me or is this episode really boring? The whole Sun and her wedding ring was as melodramatic as it was anticlimactic. I mean who cares? The triumphant music at the end just didn't suit it because it was so not a big deal. And why was Michael at first so determined to find Walt one minute and then Jin says something (that I didn't really understand--did he say "you are important"?) and suddenly Michael turns and goes with him? What happened to his determination? The last thing that didn't make sense to me was the thing with Kate going through the messages. Sawyer was on the raft, he wouldn't put a message in there. Kate knows she didn't put a message in there, so what was she looking for?
I thought this episode was one big "huh"??? It's the only one I didn't even bother to record.

I'm sorry PJ, I have to disagree with you. While I generally do like the ones that center on Sawyer or have as much Sawyer as is humanly possible to have in side one hour, I really do like this one too.
I think the reason Kate was going through the messages was on the off chance that he did write one. I think she may have been thinking that he might have written on just in case something happened to the raft and they didn't get to deliver the messages, which as it turns out, is exactly what did happen.
I don't think Michael gave up at all in his determination to find Walt, I just think that it could be very possible that by running into Jin, he realized that it really was fruitless to go running off into the "haunted damn jungle" when he could reunite with the group and have their help in finding Walt or, possibly, keep himself safe so that he could try to find Walt again later. We must remember Michael is going to be searching for Walt for a long time. It's not going to be uncommon for him to go off in any way and at any time that he might have a clue as to Walt's whereabouts.
As for Sun's wedding ring, that was a metaphor for her "losing" her husband. She believed that if she lost her ring, then somehow or another she had lost Jin. And, her wedding ring is something given to her directly by Jin. None of the other possessions that she has would matter as much as that. It was her direct link to him and in her mind, as long as she wore that ring, he was safe.
Just my thoughts, I could be wrong.
Finally, I did notice something that I had not noticed before. When Eko and Jin were talking, Eko said he "was married". I didn't notice that when the show aired the first time.

probably the cynic in me, but I thought she was checking to see if anyone wrote anything about there being a criminal on the island.

Thanks for your comments lisagwilkins. Feel free to disagree any time. You definitely shed light on some things for me. I just didn't find the particular conflicts in this episode that interesting. I also thought the behavior of the characters was a little more contrived than usual, almost like the plot demanded they do certain things whether the character would really do them or not.
Finally about Eko--there was some debate the first time this aired over what Eko actually said. I agree he probably was married and it makes sense that he said "was". For some reason, it comes out sounding like he said "worse" and I don't really know what that would mean. What's worse than being married ?

Yep.
That's what i thought too was in case Sawyer had put a note in the bottle if something had happened on the raft.
And, i missed it totally Eko saying he was married. Good job.
This is my least favorite episode of both seasons so far. The flashback sheds little light, because we know they get together. It does make Jin to be a better person.
I also never have understood, even after about three times, what Jin said to Michael. "You're not at fault"?
The Goodwin scene is also confusing. The way Eko described him made it seem like he was a good guy, and maybe the other tailies were never sure what to make of Ana's suspicions and don't believe her. Also, didn't Goodwin die at the top of a hill with lots of open space around. Did Ana drag his body down into the jungle as a warning to the Others?
