Does that production number count the military version, I believe most of those were called C-47's?
The DC-2 also looks a lot like a DC-3 for some odd reason

The Lisunov Li-2 was one Russian version of the DC-3

I think there are a ton of ways Kate special person could ahve been involved with a DC-3 or one of its clones and still be about her age or at least ehr father's age.
