Jack/Kate's Developments in the Haircut/Pill scene

This thread is to discuss their first interaction since their kiss in WKD. Please no bashing just constructive chat.

Upon approach I think Jack looked sadly resigned w/a hint of jealousy. I don't believe he was necessarily insincere, but he was definitely trying to hide his hurt behind a smile.

Kate's demeanor w/Sawyer before Jack came reminded me of how J/K were recently in the dinner scene of EHH...Shortly after Jack arrived her countenance changed. She stopped everything she was doing & I couldn't help but wonder if it was because she didn't want Jack to get the wrong impression. She seemed to be fidgeting the mirror nervously.

And even though Jack was offscreen a lot, oddly I could still feel his chemistry w/Kate just in how she was looking at him. Her expression, imo, was like she was staring at him as if her were a guilty pleasure. Thinking about what had happened & then kind of shyly diverting her eyes from him, quickly back at Sawyer to see if he was noticing, & then back to Jack again.

I also think she was pleasantly surprised about Jack's gesture of bringing Sawyer the medication. Much in the way she had been reminded of her feelings for Jack, imo, when he had been understanding in the pill scene of Collision.

I completely expected there to be an air of "an elephant in the room" upon their first interaction. With them ,imo, not saying something speaks more than if they do .For i.e., it took almost 8? eps before the "making out" of CM was brought up in Outlaws which was of a "romantic" nature of sorts, yet it only took 1 ep post WTCMB for them to acknowledge the case issues which were more friendship based.

So, imo, Jack & Kate are working hard to deny what they felt from the kiss. As Foxy said of Kate "you realize he cares so freaking much for her but he doesn't want to allow himself to get attached to anything that may hurt him. He's really pushing her away" (paraphrasing)... And I think w/what the announcer said during the kiss in Revelation, it reflects Kate's mentality, "What do you do when you want to hold on but your instincts tell you to run". In otherwords, imo, she wants to be w/Jack but doesn't feel she deserves anything "good" & thus it's easier to run.

These 2 drive me nuts because they just need to have a good talk lol, but I'm willing to be patient because they're so great together.

Anyhoo just my cents Thoughts?

Re: Jack/Kate's Developments in the Haircut/Pill scene

I liked that scene, because it was all very well acted out.

The way Kate looked at Jack, slight embarrasment in her eyes and yet trying to put it all behind her and get along with him (ah look you made me go all sentimental).

Anyway, I'm not very into this love-theme on the show, although I must admit that for a minimalistic scene, it was very meaningful. All those things brought up by the looks on their faces....

What can I say, they're wonderful actors!

nothing wrong with a little sentimentality

I agree...it wasn't a very long scene at all but I also felt it was meaningful because of the good acting. It was kind of nice how they had all 3 of them interacting in a congenial manner-very creative. Jack/Sawyer even seemed on good terms. And if I didn't know any better, Sawyer looked kinda chipper to see Jack lol. Then again Jack did help him get well.

I think the same thing can be said of Kate's POV. I think that's why she and Sawyer get along so well because I don't see anything deep, lasting or meaningful between them.

I need more!!! *begs writers for more Kate/Sawyer/Jack scenes*

Seriously, I think I need more interaction between them besides 16 seconds to understand the dynamics between Kate and Jack right now. I still don't fully know why Kate kissed Jack in the first place.

I can't wait for this next episode and more of Jack's backstory.

Exactly. There is nothing to lose there, so why fear it?

I think Kate feels like she can kind of "hide" with Sawyer. He doesn't challenge her status quo though, imo, so I have a hard time seeing a potential for growth for Kate in the relationship. I think she's assisted Sawyer to tap into his vulnerability, but I feel Kate is as much the person who broke down in Jack's arms as she is the "bad" girl. She has a lot emotionally to work through in order to heal & while Sawyer gets that outsider/ criminal aspect of her, I feel Jack understands her vulnerability. They both had emotionally repressive alocholic fathers... She has to purge her pent up emotions so she can release her pain & I think if it wasn't for Jack telling her it was going to be ok & letting her cry, she wouldn't have been able to touch her horse since the island had to "see" she repented her sin imo.

Jack and Kate have such a strong element of friendship & I think that is the most important part for an enduring love. They've gotten through so many difficult & traumatic experiences together it's really built a bond. From deaths, to monsters, dangerous hikes, betrayals etc..They've been there for each through the thick & thin. Asking if the other is ok, if they need to talk, worry about one another's sleep/well being etc. Jack catches Kate when she falls & gives her encouragement/support, & she tends to him & tells him he did his best as well as appreciates what he does for ppl/her. I think that's something he didn't get from his parents or Sarah because they expected him to be perfect. Jack and Kate have seen each other at their best/worst & Kate still thinks Jack is "good". He was clueless when she said she wasn't because he doesn't believe her. It must be really self affirming for Kate to have someone who believes in her like that. And frigthening.

I love the absolute unpredictability & irony of their pairing. Who would have thought that a doctor/criminal could have found such (imo) a fulfilling relationship? It's really indicative of what's going on on the island as a whole. How loves/friendships are being born our of adversity in not being selective or discriminatory. I like the idea that someone you never would have run into in the real world, could have the missing half of yourself.

They have such a natural "true love" kind of vibe that I personally don't feel with Kate & Sawyer.
