A very cool Sawyer-centric. It's amazing what a few whisperings in a few ears can do. And then the one we least expected was in on it! Charlie! Imagine that! Gotta love Darth Charlie. And Sawyer...tch tch tch, one day - it's gotta be inevitable, the conner will be the connee. It's the Circle of Life. Meanwhile, where does he come up with these nicks?? Man, he must watch a lotta TV, lol. He's a walking quotable.
I was hoping they'd find something a little cooler on the radio. It could have at least been playing Twilight Time by the Platters, or part of that Orson Welles Alien Invasion radio cast thingie. That would have been hilarious. In between and far beyond, a great ep.
I could concentrate on what bothered me this episode, but Ill focus on the positives a bit.
I liked Sawyer's flashback, although I guess its only purpose was to show that he can be brutal and souless when doing a con...which played out with the island theme.
I liked the twist with Charlie, if for no other reason then to see Darth!charlie which amused me greatly.
So now Sawyer has control of the guns and thus control of the army. Im kind of glad to see Jack knocked off his leadership role for once.
I had spoiled myself with the insiderscoop synopsis, but I still thought it played out very nicely as an island puzzle counterpointed with a similar stratagem he had employed previously. He even called Cassie "Dimples," the way he calls Kate "Freckles," although the fans call Sawyer/Josh "Dimples," so it's a double joke, like the con.
I'm still not sure if he truly loved Cassie and was refusing to go along with Gordy, or if that was part of a con on Gordy. But Sawyer is not about to let himself be vulnerable to violent people. That's the first lesson of his childhood.
If I hadn't been spoiled, I think I would have figured out that he was behind the kidnapping and angling for the guns, but I never would have guessed on Charlie being his accomplice. And now scary, violent Locke who we were all sure was the devil last week is once again the poor sucker that everyone cons.
LOVED IT: The episode ran in parallel with the girl in the flashback; everything Sawyer has ever done has been to jip everybody but himself. He capitalized on the Charlie/John quarrel by using Charlie to take Sun to further tarnish John's reputation, and in donig so, set Charlie up for "a long con," meaning a hard fall to soon follow. This worked in tandem with Sawyer wanting to get back at Jack...and the fact that John and Jack were at each other's throats; it was like an equation that fell into place for Sawyer. Knowing that Charlie had previously been "outed" by the group, Sawyer new this was the answer to getting what he wanted. It was brilliantly calculated.
