Locke is the only truely integral character in Lost as his story has been driven by his experiences on the island more than any other character, like his dream leading to the discovery of the plane and the discovery of the hatch etc.... ls the island realy guiding Locke or is he simply being manipulated? Whatever he saw when he looked into the 'heart of the island' has given Locke faith in the island. Could it be that Dhama or even the others have been manipulating Locke, the 'monster' is a defence system almost certainly created by Dhama so whatever he saw was whatever Dhama wanted him to see. Could the others also be influencing Lockes path on the island? Is Locke following a path to redemption or is he mistaking coincidence for fate?

I think that John is following whatever "muse" he received when he looked into the
"island"/"monster" .
I disagree that he's the only character who is integral to the show. I think there
are others who are equally or moreso.
Yes, John does mistake coincidence for fate, but some things can't be explained
away with coincidence!! I mean, the drug plane being on the same island where
Eko ends up after a plane crash? No way is that coincidence...
FGood point brother (especialy aboutthe characters) I didn't realy explain myself too well. What I was trying to get at was that as much as coincendence seems to be fate (and sometimes is ie. the major things like Desmond knowing Jack etc...) is Locke following the truth that the island showed him or is it a path thta Dhama or the others are controling? Dhama are almost certainly behind the 'monster' that opened Lockes eyes (who knows what he saw or what Dhama showed him) but are the smaller things like Lockes finding Chariles guitar and even the dream of the plane itself the product of influence from the others? We don't know how powerful they are in numbers or gifts (ie telepathy etc.... as exibited by Walt whom they chose to join them) and could it be that the others or Dhama are playing Locke like a fiddle to achieve whatever they desire from him.
To answer your query- I just don't know! I think it's totally possible that the Dharma
folks are controlling the island, hence John.
OTOH, there might be some kind of "island entity" separate from Dharma that John
is listening to...
I guess we'll find out eventually?
Sorry about that sister.
I think the others are connected to the island so maybe your right about it being a seperate entity, maybe Locke is connected to it in the same way as the others.
I think perhaps the Dharma project no longer exists, that they moved on to something else.... after their project hit some major snags. Like the Others going native, the arrival of a french scientific team, the sickness, .... they abandoned the project and left all their "subjets" to their own devises. Rats leaving a sinking ship.

Thats some sound thinking there! Do you think the others have been influencing Locke? We know there was research into remote viewing so if any of the others were test subjects for this project they could easily influence the path of someone as open to the islands path as John Locke.
