Begun, "The Others" war has . . .

I was thinking back on the episode, as we all seem to do, and some things occurred to me. WAR has already been initiated.

Zeke said (to paraphrase), "There's a line./You live because we let you live."

Why?

Because the Losties have taken over the Swan hatch, which, for some presently unknown reason, is central to the whole island mystery. They've automatically taken over for Desmond by pressing the button.

So now the others have sent a mole/spy in the form of Henry Gale, who did exactly as he was supposed to -- infiltrate the hatch. Gale, in his brief time, got a huge lesson in the the inner-workings of the hatch. It's only a matter of time before he turns on Jack or whomever "protects" him down there and takes over the hatch for the others. Because now that the others have finally infiltrated the hatch the Losties are no longer necessary and can be wiped out at will.

Begun, "The Others" war has.

Re: Begun, "The Others" war has . . .

I don't know that his "plan" was to get into the hatch. I'm still not convinced that there aren't more than 2 groups of others...or more. There was Ethan and the guy from the tailies, who seemed to be better dressed and less savage like than the "others" that took Walt and confronted Jack, Locke, and Sawyer. I'm not saying it's impossible that the "spies" that have been found out so far could be from that same group of others, but why would they need a spy? If they don't make sounds and leave no tracks, they could just observe from the trees. OR could they be doing it for fun?

Ughhh...there goes my head spinning off again.

So you are going on the premise that Desmond was an "Other". Zeke and the boys could of gotten into the hatch before Locke discovered it but already had Desmond in there.

Zeke did say to Locke that "you shouldn't open any doors you were not supposed to"(paraphrasing). Was this Zeke telling Locke that we know about the hatch and we have our boy Desmond down there.

I still think eventually Henry Gale will speak up and give our losties some information needed to fight Zeke and his posse.

No. I take Desmond at his word. (I know, I'm taking chances by doing so.) I believe Desmond was successfully defending the hatch from the others. Everything we know about Des has shown that he was on constant "high alert." We just didn't get to hear the whole story . . . yet. But now Zeke sees an opportunity to take over the hatch from less aware Losties. The hatch is vital to the war on the island -- he who controls the hatch controls the island, sort of thing.

Interesting point, that the castaways might not know just what they've got down there. I like the idea of Desmond as the hatch's defender - it would explain why he needed that whole arsenal.

I maintain that Henry as an infiltrator is a risky strategy, though -- the castaways, and certainly Danielle, unless she's been lying all along, might have been as likely to kill him as to bring him to the hatch. An alternative would be to capture and/or turn one of the castaways who's been down there.

<<. An alternative would be to capture and/or turn one of the castaways who's been down there.>>>

this also may be what they are trying, by "luring" Michael with fake messages from Walt
with Walt as a hsotage they could get Michael to do/tell them pretty much anything

Oooh, didn't think about that. I like it. We'll have to watch him closely when he reappears.

By the way, shouldn't the title of this thread be, "Begun this Others war has"

I think the reappearance of Michael when ever it occurs will be signficant. Why would the Others start the war if no lines had been crossed? We are getting some really conflicting information from the aggressive actions of the Others with the Tailies and now Mr. Friendly indicating that peaceful co-existence is possible.

does anyone think that maybe Michael's attempting to communicate via the console has caused some of the strife as well? The Hanso Co reel said specifically that the console was not to be used for anything but entering the code.

Yes! That's exactly my point. The others can't trust the Losties. There are too many of them with their own agendas to just keep pushing the button and not abide the "rules."
So now they have to take control of it, one way or another.

I wholeheartedly disagree. The others have been watching the Losties since their arrival. They know that there are two distinct leaders. They know that they wouldn't just kill someone. The Losties did exactly what the others wanted -- locked him in the hatch until they could figure out what to do with him. However, it's too late. Henry is gonna take over the hatch.
