Maybe they should start listening to some of the fans who have been saying right along that not enough of the mysteries are being solved, and when they are solved it is with more questions than answers. It seems to me that they are prolonging the agony by having all of the filler episodes. I just hope it won't be too late for this show because, some fans have completely given up, like my husband. He tells me that they are giving us meager scraps.
I talked my mother, 66, into watching Lost last season and we both got caught up on Veronica Mars last summer. She usually tapes VM and watches Lost. She told me that last night, she kept switching to VM on commercials and became so bored with Lost that she just gave up on it and stayed on VM. She has had it with Lost and I'm getting there. I can't believe that this is the same show I was so addicted to last season. At this point, I see no reason to invest in the season 2 DVD's. How could we go from (at least what I thought was) a great season 2 opener to this inconsistent, boring, mess? One of my biggest peeves is that we NEVER get to SEE someone come running back from one of their jungle escapades (think the hatch in Maternity Leave) and tell anyone who'll listen about what they just saw/found. Do the producers think that would be redundant or boring? Reaction to big news is interesting, isn't it? I'm tired of watching Hurley eat and Sawyer stand guard at the pharmacy/gun shop. I feel like screaming at these people, "For God's sake, don't you want to get out of here? Why are you leisurely strolling around and reading books about adolescent girls when you should be trying to figure out where you are and how the h*ll to get out of there!" I'd also like to give the writers a new rule. No flashbacks allowed unless they are 95% new information. This foot-dragging is becoming excruciating. Sorry to rant. I'm just feeling the frustration that comes from knowing how good something can be, and seeing it slide into mediocrity.
I, too, was disappointed after waiting two weeks...I certainly hope next week's ep is a big improvement...This one was a yawnfest!! The only positive was getting to see all of the main characters...
Well, so did Sawyer. They're trying to prove that people do not change. So that comes as no surprise.
Just curious, but, is anyone else actually feeling happy that the ratings are falling so they could get some jumpstart and get on with the story and not drag it out?
Yes and no. One the one hand maybe it will be a wakup call for ABC to stop controlling the lame show it has become and instead let the writers do what they wanted instead of adding crap eppys like this one. On the other hand, they will abondon it as soon as it is not lucritive for them. ABC only cares about cash and not what the fans want
I actually found it insulting. Several times during the episode I had the distinct impression that the writers/producers were mocking the show's fans by bringing up questions that have been pondered on this board...good questions, IMHO...and then having the characters summarily dismiss it, or immediately change the conversation.
I think the bulk of Lost fans are very intelligent, very thoughtful viewers, who ask great questions and come up with brilliant theories. For TPTB to make fun of these questions and theories was just uncalled for.
Did anyone else get that impression, or was that just us?
I got the same impression. It's nice that the writers acknowledge our complaints, but that's not going to pacify me. What I want is for them to fix the absurd anti-curiousity & communication forcefields these characters are under, not just make a passing note of it. Acknowledging the problem isn't going to make it go away, and dismissing it as they did just makes it worse, imo. I really don't even think they see the lack of curiousity as a problem. They've chosen to write the characters this way, as is their right of course, and they haven't expressed any willingness to change.
I love LOST and am giong to stick with it, but this was the episode where the habit that the characters have of never communicating with each other really got to me, and not in a good way.
Why weren't Claire and Kate talking about the other hatch? I could buy it if we didn't see Kate at all, then I'd just think that the action was simultaneous. But no, she was there. It's very frustrating to know that some big plot stuff went down and yet it's not being discussed, nor is it explicitly being kept a secret. it just feels ignored. WHich sometimes de-values the writing for me.
Why didn't Sun elaborate on the "impossible" when she was speaking with Jack? Why don't they share information? Secrets like Charlie and Sayid I can buy into, because we were given some context....but the other stuff just makes me feel as if the main thrust of the action has gone a bit off track. However, next week looks promising.
I hope it's okay to post this here, but in the latest tv guide there's an interview with Terry O'Quinn and he says that he's frustrated with the character and where it's going. About why he's in the wheelchair he says he doesn't know if the producers make these decisions based on what is truly good timing or if somebody's saying, "You better make this meal last as long as you possibly can." Asked if he goes online, he says he used to but not anymore because he began to be frustrated with the character and where he was going in the show. People online were asking questions I was asking myself, and it was getting in my head too much, so I stopped. Asked why he was frustrated and he said, "I'm always nervous about people getting tired of Locke. I want the character to remain fascinating. He's a seeker and I want him to remain a seeker. But what we want isn't always what they write.
I wonder how many of the actors are feeling the same way about their characters. Sounds like at least one hasn't been to happy this year.
That's really sad to hear considering how much Terry O'Quinn loved playing Locke last season, and how much he enjoyed interacting with the fans here. I hope he can persuade the writers to make some changes. I think they've ruined Locke this season, though Terry has remained great in the role considering what he's had to work with.
Wasn't great, wasn't terrible. I'm usually not bored by any of the backstories, ever. I was worried at first when they got the map--like, "how many episodes will it take for them to actually go look for the balloon?" But was heartened to see them striking off immediately. Alright, the walking distance was maybe estimated a bit too easily, but I figure Sayid would know the layout of the island if anyone did.
(I also confess I went a little overboard earlier about the typo in the captioning. Of course the writers don't need to apologize. And alright, even captioners can make mistakes We can just be crabby fans sometimes. Actually make that all of the time...)
Anyway, I guess I feel like they're saving up for May--I'm guessing in May we'll be getting five episodes in a row, ending with the season finale. They've slowly been building the storylines and characters towards that goal. My bet is next episode will start to set that up and we'll see a few surprises. We might get one more in April, though. These are just my completely uninformed guesses.
I'm starting to like Henry. He could be a really good character.

Wow. Just. Wow. So, Terry sees it too....Wow.
Thanks for posting Jomama!! It's just really sad to see an actor as brilliant as Terry become this bitter over his character over the course of a single season.
