I posted this in another thread that no one is reading, so thought I would start a new one - my first!
I don't think he is an other, or at least a part of the others that took Claire and Walt. I think he worked for Dharma in the hatch but wasn't privy to the bigger picture and at some point started asking questions and investigating why he was really there. I think "Henry" drew the diagram.
- He knew the numbers before Locke told him, it's unlikely that he could have memorized them that quickly
- He lied when he said that nothing happened after he entered the numbers
Perhaps at some point he left (escaped) the hatch (is he Kelvin?). He took on the Henry Gale persona and used Rousseau to get back into the hatch. He identified Locke as someone who could help him with his quest for answers. After he entered the numbers he took the opportunity to show Locke the diagram - he turned on the black lights and then reversed the lockdown.
Maybe he wanted back in the hatch to see the diagram again - he knew the lockdown was going to happen because it's a drill that happens periodically, like every 3 months or so, and coinsides with the food drop.
***MOD EDIT to remove spoiler font..not spoilers..they are theories based on the episode.***

This would also explain his story of how he got on the island. He took the story form Desmond b/c that is how he can hide his true identity. He also knows the stats on the balloon b/c he was in the hatch so long with him and they talked about it. but i think you are on to something.
I too like this general idea.....Gale being Kelvin. Do we know where Kelvin was from..... geographically, i mean, because you can call me crazy (many many people have ), but, am I the only one who heard Gale slip into an Australian accent - or something similiar - when he said the line 'what happened'.
All week I thought we were gonna see Desmond again, because in the preview you hear someone say that line, and I could of sworn it was an australian accent.
I hope this hasn't been discussed somewhere - I have read a handful of other threads where its not mentioned, but I easily could of missed it somewhere.
So....anyone.....Australian accent from Gale?
(it was only on the one line, 'What Happened?' )
The other day when I was walking through the woods,
I saw a rabbit standing in front of a candle making shadows of people on a tree.
Yesterday's just a memory, tomorrow is never what it's supposed to be.

I like this theroy! I thought it was odd how fast he 'remembered' the numbers, I think he already knew them. Kelvin could be from the others and knows things, maybe having to live in that hatch was punishment for something he did that he wasn't suposed to? Who would want to have to live in there?? I sure wouldn't.

I also heard an accent, thought it could've been Austrailian too.
Didn't Desmond say Kelvin died? Why would he bother lying about such a thing? If Kelvin had just walked off one day - Desmond would've twigged that typing in the numbers couldn't've been that important and he'd have left the hatch too.
Alone in the cell Henry certainly looked frightened and shocked at the lights suddenly going out - if he was Kelvin he'd be expecting the shut down so it wouldn't faze him.
As for remembering the numbers -even if he hadn't already proven how good his memory is (the balloon details he recited from -somewhere) -they're written on a post-it on the monitor, as we've already seen in a previous episode when they were pointed out to Hurley.
In short - I think it's a daft idea. Henry is not Kelvin.

Desmond did say Kelvin died - maybe he assumed it because Kelvin created a scenario that made it look like he died, when in fact he just escaped the hatch and pushing the button.
In any regard, even if he isn't Kelvin, I don't think the prospect of him having lived and worked in the hatch previously is a daft idea. In fact, I think it would be kind of a cool story development.
