A hallucinogenic?

I've been bugged by something that I thought maybe you could help with... I know that you probably aren't privy to the deepest, darkest secrets of Lost, but in the episode Hearts and Minds, Locke (you) rubs that sticky, oozy stuff on Boone's head, and claims it is to stop the swelling. But later on, you ask, "Is that what it made you see?" A lot of people I know have been tying to figure out what Locke was talking about when he said "it." Was the paste actually a hallucinogenic, or was "it" the island? I thought he meant the island giving Boone the same kind of experience it gave him, but I'm not so sure... If you could help, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

(P.S: I love your work on this show. Locke is definitely my favorite character on the show, he is just so mysterious... Your performance in Walkabout was incredible.)

I think the paste was, in fact, a hallucenogenic, but that it acted as a conduit to the Island's power. So I suppose I would say that both views are correct.
