I have no sources other than my intuition, but does anyone think that Charlie is being setup to die next week? It seems like they have neatly tied up all of his loose story lines, heroin, Claire, etc. They did the same to AnaLucia before they dropped the axe on her as well.
You make a great point. I really hope he doesn't die, though. Maybe they are expecting us to expect him to die and will throw us a curve by letting him live! An exception that proves the rule kind of thing.
I don't believe in the 'they found redeemption therefore they die' theory. People die because they are in accidents or in the way of bullets. That theory is blown apart by Libby...and Steve and the Marshall for that matter.
Causing the deaths to follow any kind of 'pattern' would ruin the surprise element of the show. They would get predictable and boring...the writers have to make it more random.
I'm not saying Charlie is safe but I just don't believe in the 'they wrapped up their storyline all nice and neat and they found redeempion and now they must die' theory.
Besides Charlie's story is NOT wrapped up. There is still the matter of Sun's fake abduction and his relationship with Locke still to be delt with.
Charlie won't die. That bit with the vaccine just opened up a whole new story arc for him and I'm convinced it will play itself slowly in Season three. They are not going to start something like that the week before the finale only to kill him. He is protected by the vaccine for the next nine days, Claire is just warming back up to him but he's not back in with her yet. He still has a ways to go. He's not dying. We still don't know what the deal is with his butcher daddy. We still don't know why Aaron had to be baptised. We still don't know who was causing him to have these prophetic dreams. I think all that will become significant and Charlie has to be there for it.
I think we sometimes get the redemption/death thing backwards. People don't die because their stories have been resolved, their stories are resolved because they're going to die. The writers know that it would be unsatisfying to the audience if characters died with a lot of unresolved issues, so when the story calls for the character to be killed off, they try to tie up the loose ends as best they can beforehand. But story arcs are resolved all the time without anybody dying, and then new ones begin. It just means that they're going to take Charlie in a different direction now; it doesn't necessarily mean he's marked for death.

I agree with you pacejunkie, too many arcs left unanswered. Also, lets not forget that Charlie is the one character that elementary and junior high school kids can probably relate to most. For all intents and purposes Charlie is the main "Child" protagonist on Lost(With Boone dead and Walt...wherever). I dont think the head honchos at ABC want to kill of Charlie, thus alienating all their young viewers watching at home with their families. Lost is afterall, a Family program...right?
