Michael's Compass Working?

The typist on the computer (presumably Walt) said to head North.......yet when Michael checks his compass, his needle indicates he is headed mostly East..........WHY?

Re: Michael's Compass Working?

I could swear that Michael looked at the compass and then turned left.

Re: Michael's Compass Working?

Okay, I'll give you that........I guess in the back of my mind I was thinking about the magnetism on the island throwing the compass off track, but I guess that's not what happened.

You know these directors...thought they must have shown the compass up close for a reason.......

Re: Michael's Compass Working?

I noticed the east/north thing too. But was that scene just when he was starting out, or had he been going a while?

Re: Michael's Compass Working?

During the first season, when they determined that the compass didn't work. They realized that true North was indicated by East on the compass, no? If so, he was heading North.

Re: Michael's Compass Working?

We've known since the first season that compasses don't work on Craphole Island due to the electromagnetic force.

Also, Michael stomping around the Island is pretty symbolic.. Don't you think?

Re: Michael's Compass Working?

I also started a thread on this yesterday:

http://forum.thefuselage.com/showthread.php?p=997284#post997284

I'm not trying to be one of those "THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN TALKED ABOUT!!" people or anything. I just thought there might have been something discussed there that wasnt here...

Re: Michael's Compass Working?

it didn't look to me as though mike even turned his compass around to align the needle with north. perhaps he's just a frustrated wanabe boy scout.

Re: Michael's Compass Working?

Hate to burst anyone's bubble...but I think the shots of the compass had nothing to do with the storyline of the eppy...rather, it had everything to do with the website given out in the Hanso commercial during the show...

www.letyourcompassguideyou.com

I think in the pilot eppy the compass was spinning all over the place...and never stayed put in one location long enough to give an accurate reading. I think the compass was dragged out of mothballs simply for marketing reasons...as the website was sponsored by Chrysler...who has a new Jeep vehicle that they are pushing...

The Jeep Compass

I'd love to say the compass Michael was using was there for a better reason than the show "selling out" to advertisers...But, sadly...I can't.

Re: Michael's Compass Working?

Thats what I was thinking when I was reading this thread, I think the compass doesn't work correctly because of the magnetism, there really is no extreme reason to show it, and its only purpose was probably to promote the new site.
