She's been on the island for 16 years! She's a tough woman, good shot, well-armed. Shouldn't she have walked around the island enough to have found the Others? At least to spy on them? Couldn't she have climbed to see fire somewhere?
If Michael is so desperate to have his son back, couldn't she have gone to look for Alex?
EVEN IF they're faking, and that camp with canvas tents is just make-believe, even then she could have found *something*. It is obvious the Others couldn't keep watching her moves 24/7, or they'd have to have someone following her all the time. So I'm sure she could have sneaked.
And yet her surprise for finding Alex was alive seemed genuine.
I find it odd also that she hasn't seen any of them. Of course she can't say that now that she captured Fenry in her net.
But....when they were showing Michael in the others' camp and showing who was there...and they called for Miss Clue....I was half expecting to see Danielle walk out.
Hey Losties, I'm glad that someone else wanted to discuss this besides myself. I have not trusted Danielle since she was introduced to the show. Her story never made sense to me. First of all, why didn't she get sick like the rest of her team? Where did she get her weapons from. Why hasn't she seen the Others, the food drops, or found a hatch? In 16 years all those things would be possible. Also why did she give Fenry to the Losties, when she was able to torture him herself? When we first met her she tortured Sayid, in hopes of finding Alex, then she took Aaron in hopes of getting her back. There are just too many question regarding Danielle, which usually means something bad. I wish they would show an entire ep about Danielle, her team and what really happened. Sure would be interesting ! But Danielle has to be lying about not seeing the Others, or maybe they just don't want anything to do with her???HHMMMMM???

It's implied that they made a show especially for Michael to give him a false sense of security, and that you don't find them unless they want to be found.
Also it could be that the others themselves are terrified of the black smoke monster/Cerberus, and that's where Danielle hung out mostly so they never met eye to eye before, but have now, obviouslly because the losties are topic of great interest for the others.
Actually, I think Danielle has been fairly accurate in almost everything she has said. There are Others, there are whispers, they did take her child, there is a Black Rock, they were coming for the boy (although she chose the wrong boy). I think she did not wander far from her bunker after the trauma of what happened to her team and has never seen a lot of what the Losties have. But I don't think she's lying. I would also love a Danielle flashback on the island - maybe she did go searching for Alex at one point.

I think we can all agree that the rags are primarily props. I am pretty sure that this is what Walt was referring to. Heck, we've seen Zeke cleaned up before. Based on that, I would guess that not EVERYTHING is "fake" about them. In other words, I believe their threat that Michael would never see Walt again is genuine as far as they are able to maintain that threat.
What I find amusing is that I haven't seen anyone propose that this is might be the exact same situation Danielle went through. She failed whatever mission the Others gave her, so she never got to see Alex again. It is easy to then draw a parallel between how her crew died and Michael's victims.
Yeah, assuming that campsite is real, it rather strange that Danielle has never seen it. Remember she did draw a map of the island so she has walked around a large portion of it. Also, it's a bit strange that she wouldn't notice two big metal doors sticking out of rock formation, with nothing really hiding the doors.

Javi explained that Danielle gave Henry to the Sayid, because she was tyring to win back their trust and be in their good books. Though yes, I do agree that her story seems fishy and I would loooove to see a few Danielle flashbacks at some point! I'm sure we would have to wait though becuase they would reveal quite a bit about the island.

Well said, belshep...I agree...I think Rousseau went looking for Alex shortly after she had to "put down" her sick crew...but encountered 'ol Smokey..or a polar bear or two...and she figured the island is too dangerous to explore, and thus stayed pretty much put at her camp. Remember, she mentioned 'ol Smokey was a "security system". Rousseau was able to draw a few crude maps of the island...maybe she climbed the radio tower that broadcasted her signal? And she was only able to write down what she could see from there? But she couldn't see Camp Other across the island.
But here's what I (think) I do know about her:
1. She knows more about The Others than she is letting on.
2. She WILL get a flashback in Season 3.
3. She will be reunited with Alex.
4. She will dealt with by the Others.

Actually it has been mentioned in a thread for this episode (sorry can't remember which one!). They do seem quite similar, two 'crazy' people running around the jungle with rifles, looking for their kidnapped child. And if Danielle did kill her crew it makes sense that she would say they got sick rather then say "I had to devise a diabolical plot where I abused the trust of my crew in order to get back Alex. However when I killed everyone, I found out I was actually tricked by the others and they never planned to give back my child."
Danielle shares the same opnion regarding the others with Ana-Lucia: "You have three choices; run, hide or die"
So, she has not been alive in that island for 16 years by chance. She knows what she's doing. And plus, maybe Danielle has never been a target of the others whatsoever. Remember when Mr. Friendly told Jack "The only reason you live on the island is because we let you", Danielle doesn't do anything to piss the Others, so they let her live on it.
