Re: Gaining Jack's trust:Was the dangerous situation a set up?
Don't think Juliet's in on it. As I've mentioned this in another thread, that look on her face when Ben left her to drown said everything. A look that Jack couldn't have seen. And possibly a clue... the book she chose for her book club was likely Stephen King's "Carrie", and besides the obvious hints of telekinesis etc, the big idea behind the story is simply about a girl who couldn't take her situation anymore and FIGHTS back.
btw, gaining Jack's trust would have been to give him food and water.

She did that, it didn't work. He at first refuse to take the food , and the water, considering it could have been drugged. remember? Jack grab her. Juliet gain Jack trust, because he now views her as a ally, against Ben, and she saved his life.

At first if you don't succeed.... which is IMO when the beginnings of a trust began and was solidified when she answered Jack's longing question about Sarah. As for Jack viewing Sarah as an ally because of Ben? I don't think they're there just yet. Though I could be wrong, I'd think Jack would being Jack, would begin immediately using 'reverse psychology' on her, in much the same way Ben did to Locke to begin questioning his relationship to Jack.
Re: Gaining Jack's trust:Was the dangerous situation a set up?
I said this in another thread but I believe the flooding situation was used 100% to set Jack up to trust Juliet...."oh look Jack, Ben left me for dead and yet I saved you, so now you can trust me"....Ben and Juliet lied, opening the door didn't kill everybody as there was a way to stop the flooding and release the water...
Also the offer of food and water if he would be a good boy and sit in the corner with his back to the wall was patronising and made to make him feel small and broken...add to that the use of Christians autopsy notes and knowledge of Sarah...Juliet was slowly crushing the fight out of Jack and being sweet and gentle the whole time (except when she knocked him out)

She had just explained earlier that his brain was swelling from severe dehydration, under normal circumastances people can get knocked out from a powerful blow to the chin, but Jack was in very fragile condition and had no time to prepare himself. Plus, maybe she has Ethan strength?
I dunno how I feel about Julia's intentions, she's a very grey area right now, and very intreguing.
