Enlightenment

I'm new to this site, so I'm sure it has been addressed already. Everyone is aware that Locke seems to know what's going on (at least more than the main characters) and also Locke was the name of one of the political thinkers from THE ENLIGHTENMENT ERA. Tonight's episode, we meet Rousseau, another person who knows what's going on the island and is ALSO another political thinker from the Enlightenment Era. Not to mention, we know a lot of the characters' first names, but with these two, we know their last (and yes, their first, too- Danielle). Obviously the writers intended this. I'm expecting the next new knowledgable character to be called, "Hobbes." (Save the Calvin jokes).

Sayid has created a bond with Danielle, then he starts hearing the same voices she does (people connection- seen as industry, which is why the people died) .
Michael's kid (I forget his name) creates a bond with Locke, then he can look at a comic book with a polar bear and one shows up/ ask the rain to stop to find his dog, and does. Also, in both these instances, Locke killed the bear and Locke found the dog (not sure the animal connection-maybe nature).

Re: Enlightenment

Locke didn't kill the bear--it was Sawyer, with his shotguns. Locke did kill some boars though.

Re: Enlightenment

Sawyer used a handgun to kill the bear that he took off the leg of the bounty hunter that was bringing Kate back stateside.

Here's an intersting thing, IF Walt has this magical power to make stuff happen...he always wants to hang with Locke and Michael is always stopping him. He wanted to go hunt with Locke and that didn't happen. He couldn't hang with Locke on his own until Michael was distracted. So maybe Walt's super wish powers made that happen. Michael was so engrossed in his golf game he ignored Walt and the boy could run off to hang with Locke.

Re: Enlightenment

I'm looking forward to Locke meeting Rousseau, the noble savage. Is there a corresponding term for 'Lockian's'?

Re: Enlightenment

You know, I'm beginning to suspect there is something special about Walt, too. And Vincent...really a normal dog or ... dum dum dummmm... something else?

Re: Enlightenment

Fury mentioned that Locke was indeed named after John Locke, and that they picked character's name precisely, which means they have a meaning. We'll have to watch for that...

Re: Enlightenment

Well we still don't know Dimples' real name -- it could be Calvin!

Micheal and Walt Hobbes?

Kate Kant?

Boone and Shannon Hume?

The possiblities are endless...

Re: Enlightenment

ahhhh.... Michael and Walt...

I have to keep reminding myself that Walt's mom died, and Michael went to get him, that's why they were on the plane. I'm pretty sure that Michael never helped raise Walt, and it was the first time they were getting to know each other, under the sad circumstances.

It's hard being a parent, that's why I think Michael comes off as a jerk alot. I think they are showing that he's learning to be a dad to Walt. These same things would have happened if they made it home ok too. But, at the same time, showing his inexperience.

I don't think Michael is NOT LETTING Walt hang out with Locke. I think he just wants him to stay safe. When Locke found the dog, he woke Michael first so it looked like the dad found the dog. I think Michael put aside all his suspicions at the time about Locke. Now, it's more about Walt not bothering Locke as he hunts and of course, keeping him out of danger.

As far as Walt having special powers ----- I believe all children do... a small child can easily sense danger, sadness, comfort, trust, etc etc. They are not knowledgeable to life experience and are open to feelings. Most adults cast off negative vibes as silly.

If the show makes it far enough, we should be able to tell alot from Claire's baby. A true innocent.
