So a glass eye was found with the cutout portion of the orientation film which came from the bible that was hidden in the arrow hatch. This all came from the swan hatch.
Now we see a guy in yet another hatch with an eye patch. And this guy can apparently tell when someone is looking at him through his surveillance camera (he probably has one of his screens slaved off the displays in the other hatches so he can see what they are looking at).
So what do you do when you lose your glass eye? Put a patch on it.
The Pearl's monitors are on a one way closed system as Sayid said, so apparently he was able to see inside the Pearl all the time on that independent camera, noticed them and stepped in front of his camera to introduce himself when he saw them turn on the monitor to see him. Monitor #1 btw. Station #1? Flame?
I think he knows them and wants to make contact, and as Locke said; "it looks like he'll be expecting us".
It was the best introduction to a character since Danielle imo. Great!
Good connection on the glass eye btw.

Upon closer examination of this part of the episode, the guy with the patch looks like some hard core para military type. On the table in front of the large computers is another computer that bears a striking resemblance to the Swan Hatch numbers computer. Actually it looks identical. I think this guy has been working the hatches for a long time.
Ok, here's what I see. Radzidsky has never been seen in a flashback, so we have no idea what he looked or looks like. The guy whose wife Hurley found in Numbers said that her husband put a shotgun in his mouth and died, same as what kelvin told desmond happened to razidsky (he lied to Desmond). Kelvin called the others "hostels" but never gave us a reason. Maybe they attacked the swan station and one of them died (spot on ceiling). Or, something happened to razidsky, and that was the accidet where he lost his eye. Razidsky ran off for some reason, with the edits he made in the orientation film. He got to the arrow station, and something happened, and he left his glass eye (assuming this is him on the film) and the edits, which he left in the bible. He had the radio to try and communicate with Dharma, to get off the island, but was unsuccessful. He escaped to the flame, which looks supprisingly similar to the swan station, and since he doesnt have a glass eye, is stuck with an eye patch.
I completely forgot about the glass eye until now, good catch! A friend and I were talking about him today, and we had the idea that maybe he controls the smoke monster. That thing definitely makes weird noises, like it's... mechanical... magnetic even... so it would make sense if someone had to give it commands.
I like the Radzinsky idea as well. Do we have any screen caps of that scene? I was a little too distracted by my AAHHSCARY!-ing to get a good look.
Aah, wait. This site talks about the Radzinsky idea.
