As I was re-watching the eppi, I though I heard a slight difference between Sawyer's accent in the flashbacks and on the island.* Did anyone else notice this or am I going crazy?
I was too busy drooling to hear what the man said or the twang in which he said it.*
He sounded the same to me, both in the flashbacks & present-time. I live about 20 minutes away from where he grew up, though, so that accent is quite natural for me!
I think it is more a matter of his grammar. Sometimes he sounds quite the hick and at others (like in the con with the woman's husband), he sounds more sophisticated. Though ahm from Texas, yawl, so he sounds quite natural to me.
I know that he said in an interview that he has been given a lot of freedom by the writers to change the small things and will tell them, "People don't say it like this or they don't talk like that anymore"
When he said, "Woooo howdy, imagine that a doctor playing golf..." I think he was just being extra sarcastic. Because if I remember correctly they don't say a lot of "howdies" in Georgia. Or I could be wrong, do they? :-\
Sorry, not Hugo. Just stole the line from Hugo from the ABC site. ;D
Anyway, I'm from the great state of Oklahoma, not deep south but the accent does sound fairly normal to me and I recognize a lot of his southern slang. I, also, am thrilled that they let him keep his accent.
