Hey Writers! Can I get some Dark Tower references?!?
I mean c'mon,
We've got the smartass eddie character (sawyer), the noble roland character (jack), and the gifted kid (walt). We have a beach, for father's sake! Throw some lobstrosities on that beach and let them have at it with the pistols....it would be obscure gunslinger reference heaven!
Seriously though, many of the the themes in Lost are lining up well with Stephen King's Darktower books. Darktower asked questions about the nature of the universe....is it ordered or random? Does true evil exist? Is our reality someone else's fiction? How much does our own mind control the events around us? What happens when different realities (or fictions) collide or overlap? How our lives touch other lives in strange or unexpected ways.... Lost is so good at referencing other fiction with similar themes (heart of darkness, watership down, Lord of the Flies, etc) that I am just waiting for the first gunslinger nod....
Re: Hey Writers! Can I get some Dark Tower references?!?
I looked it up in the book so I could be exact when I say what Shardik is lol....
On the metal plate on its leg it read "North Central Positronics" "Bear" "Subnuclear cells must not be replaced"
"Blood oozed from the socket in a few thick tying trickles, yet it was not just blood.* There was also a clear fluid which gave off an identifiable scent-bananas.* And, embedded in the delicate crisscross of tendons which shaped the socket, he saw a webwork of what looked like strings.* Beyond them, at the back of the socket was a red spark, blinking on and off.* It illuminated a tiny square marked with silvery squiggles of what could only be a solder"
"He touched the cooling meat inside the eyesocket, which was nearly the size of a baseball and then one of those strings, except it wasn't a string, it was a gossamer thin strand of steel.* He withrdrew his finger and saw the tiny red spark blink once more before going out forever"
"Shardik" Eddie murmured.* "I know that name, but I can't place it. Does it mean anything to you, Suze?"
She shook her head
"The thing is..." Eddie laughed helplessly. "I associate it with rabbits.* Isn't that nuts?"
Shardik was a guardian MADE to PROTECT the TOWER...maybe our "monster" was made to protect the Radio Tower, or something else completely.* Each guardian was made to appear to be an animal but was really a robotic man made machine.* But it's really a cyborg beacuse it's half machine and half animal.* The bear also had a satellite dish on it's head, and when it moved it made mechanical noises.* When Susan shot the dish, the bear died.*
And why did Shardik sound familiar to Eddie, and he encorporated it with rabbits....well later on he or Jake says that it's because "Watership Down" was written by Richard Adams, who wrote another book called "Shardik" about a bear.* Well, "Watership Down" was a given reference in the episode "White Rabbit" and when it showed Sawyer reading that book, so maybe there is more to it then just the, white rabbit.

You mentioned Walter, and I got to thinking that wasn't Walter another identity of Flagg, The Tick Tock Man, and a few others who I presumed to be the devil? Not that I believe our little Walt is the devil lol, just wondering.
