I have noticed that people have been compiling death polls and death lists about which Losties might bite the dust at the end of this season. Could Desmond be one? Perish the thought!! So many fans would be devastated if that were to happen. Some fans have started sites and posting to blogs to ask TPTB not to kill him (like this one http://cusickgallery.net/petition/in...dd_form&page=1
take a look at it so you'll get what I mean) so I was wondering ... what do you all think? Do you think they would actually kill off the character?"
Please do not post spoilers here, since there are already a lot of spoiler threads here. Just express your opinions about whether or not he will live. Thanks.
I'm glad you started this thread, MM. I think that to kill Desmond off now would be wrong. He has so much yet to tell us and now with Naomi admitting that she came looking not for the survivors of flight 815 but for Desmond alone, that opens even more of the DesPenny storyline. There has got to be, easily, enough to tell of Desmond to keep him going through next season and, maybe (and I hope ) through to the every end of the series.
I think too that Desmond is being shown to have a lot more leadership qualities than either he or anyone thought he had. He's taken on the task of protecting Charlie and now with Naomi he'll, no doubt, have her to protect since (luvleh) Kate and Sayid screwed that secret up! And I would love to see him become the leaders of the Losties! That would rock!!
Oh, I checked out the link and had signed it. LOL I have it in my siggy. Genius minds think alike, yea?

As he is the one character that has still the most story to tell, I'm not worried for Des. However, I signed that petition... for Ian
I'm not sure about his leadership qualities though. He can be eloquent, he has will-power and authority, he is showing that in every eppy, but (and don't throw stuff at me for this) I don't believe he has the interest. He is a warm, caring person, he would sacrifice his life for strangers, but he is not into "shepherding" if you will
His position in camp seems to change though, and I really hope we will see how it evolves in S4, how he becomes one of them - because as of yet, he's been an outsider still... If there's going to be a battle (this is no spoiler, only my opinion), he must take sides, and become one of the team.

I'm not throwing anything. I agree that he probably won't want to be a leader but it might actually boost his self confidence if, for example, Hurley, Charlie, Jin and maybe even Sayid support him for leader. And you're right. If there ever is a camp division, he will have to choose a side because otherwise he'll just be like Danielle ... having to go off on his own and not only don't we want that ... I doubt that's what he'd want.
So hopefully in S4 we will get to see a stronger Desmond that people look to for help and guidance and hopefully more of Penny for Des in S04!!

I see him more like a Sayid-type of character... I hope they both survive S3, because I never seen Des looking at someone with so much respect... and I can see it to be mutual. That would be a first on this show! Neither of those are willing to lead, but they have a perfect mind of their own and are great on a supportive role. If Jack is to go... or if he loses their trust or something... I have a feeling they are preparing Sawyer for the role... That's my prediction anyway

I think you may be right on Sawyer since the ep where Hurley faked him out about being voted off the island. And now that he's killed Cooper ... Whoowheee Howdy Cowboy! The New Sheriff may be back in town, boys! LOL
But I'd rather follow Des than Jack or even Locke (though I would follow Locke if there were no Des). I'd like to see Desmond show more of his powerfulness like he did with Hurley and Charlie in The Brig.
I really really hope that they do not kill Desmond. That would be a shame. Desmond is an interesting character to say the least. It almost seems as if he's a back bone character of LOST. Penny's looking for him and that might mean a possible rescue for the Losties in the future, who knows. His character is one of the stronger characters among the Losties and that makes him benificial to the group. Theres so much more to learn about him and I could go on but I'd be rambling. Anyway I would start to loose interest in the show if they Kill him off. Killing off characters shouldn't be what LOST is all about.

Boy I agree with everything you've said! I was just warming up to Shannon when AL killed her and I miss Eko terribly. And don't get me started on Libby! I loved her soooo much! It's too bad that the way the story goes they feel the need to kill off so many characters. But I really can't see them doing that to Desmond this season. I'll bet he'll be with the show until it's done.
And things like listing your name with a ton of other people that agree is a good thing! Look how much publicity Charlie has gotten with the "Save the Junkie, Save the World" campaign? It's a good thing to let TPTB know we love our characters and don't want them killed off.
