Ouch, Ben!

Ben really got his in this one!! I felt bad for him, because he was actually just bluffing. And he is totally in the Losties' mercy now. Then again, he kind of deserves it, so I love it! And I also loved it how Danielle was pulling his leash and then elbowed him in the face when he was telling Locke to shoot Jack.

I thought that this is fantastic for the character Ben. I mean, I think Richard made it pretty clear that Ben is simply not trusted by the Others anymore and he just had like 10 of them killed. So, that bridge has been burned. He's stuck with the Losties now and that is AWESOME. Michael Emerson finally gets to interact with the rest of the cast!

Who else loved this development?

All I could think of was "Damage for Remus's chart?"

Ben's position is going to be very interesting from now on, particularly if he turns out to be right about the people on the boat. And having him interact with Alex and Danielle should be fun. Will Locke forgive him, I wonder?

Re: Ouch, Ben!

From what Jack says at the end, Ben was apparently telling the truth and so was Locke. But Ben has lied so many times that it's his own fault Jack doesn't believe him.
Danielle backhanded him like a pesky mosquito that buzzed once too often. Heh.

The elbow to his face was priceless and I'm sure only the beginning of how Danielle will torment him. Talk about dysfunctional family - poor Alex! I love it.

Ben is about to, or already has, fallen from power with the Others and it's going to be wonderful to watch him suffer for a change. Even if he is right about the rescue ship. He's lied so much that even he doesn't know when he's telling the truth.

Re: Ouch, Ben!

Ben has been replaced! Richard (I believe) will take over the role of leadership among the Others. And Locke has (I believe) now become the official "Spokesman" of Jacob. Ben's ability to control others through direct intimidation and power has vanished. Not that he still cannot manipulate people, but he's going to have to be very smart in how he does it: he won't be able to just order people around anymore with the possible exception of Mikhail)...

I kept thinking all through the show that "this is the episode where Ben dies"...

But .... maybe it WAS!

Didn't feel one bit of sympathy for that creep!! He deserves much worse. I do like the fact that he is with our losties. I like all the characters to interact.

*raises hand sky high* Danielle and Jack were once again Team Boom Boom and went medieval on his squirely, manipulative a**. FTW! as they say on them internets. And I missed Jack/Ben scenes so much. Matthew Fox and Michael Emerson have a wonderful dynamic and just own the screen.

I agree that Richard has replaced Ben and I thought there was an interesting parallel between his conversation with Richard and Jack's (awesome) scene with Sayid at the beginning of the episode.

Re: Ouch, Ben!

What is so interesting about this is that a FEW WEEKS AGO, LST (Lost Standard Time), Ben was actually in charge. He was bossing people around and being the leader and enjoying primacy in all his cleanliness. But now? He's beaten and bloody, tied to a tree and he's got no one to go back to (the Others would probably burn him at a stake). Ben's life has been rattled HARD.

I can't wait to see how he's going to deal with this. It ain't gonna be easy... but awesome? THAT is exactly what it'll be! Can't wait for S4!

Re: Ouch, Ben!

I keep having this perverse vision of Ben becoming Aaron's baby-sitter, since he's the only one on the island who has ever raised an infant!

Re: Ouch, Ben!

I was stragely reminded of Gollum in The Two Towers when he has a leash around his neck and Frodo/Sam drag him along behind them. hahah..... Ben definitely got his. but not enough yet for the damage he's inflicted.
