Differences between S3 on DVD and on Blu-Ray

i hope this clears up some of the confusion between the versions ( i am not a regular here but a friend told me to post this here first)

well from what i see there are a few major differances in the blu-ray version of the set... the first is that there are only 6 discs in the set (with 5 episodes per disc instead of the usual 4), and each disc only has one animated menu shot... all the options and whatnot pop up on a bar at the bottom of this single animated screen (and i kinda miss the other static shots they had in the season one and two dvd's for the episode selection and options menus, although i do like the new interface, i just miss those extra shots)... for those of you wondering, the 6 animated backgrounds are

Disc 1: The pala ferry dock
Disc 2: Juliet's tape to jack (the full tape with no missing/edited cards)
Disc 3: hugo driving the dharma van around a feild
Disc 4: desmond and clare on the beach getting the seagull
Disc 5: the others camp (with anthony cooper in the foreground strapped to the toem)
Disc 6: a dharma computer terminal

i believe these are the same menus as the regular dvd version, but since there are 7 discs in the regular dvd version i have no idea which disc menu they cut

and it also appears that most of the dvd easter eggs from the dvd version are also in the blu-ray version, but some of them are accessed differently in this version (as the menu in disc 6 appears to be different from the descriptions of disc 7 in the regular release)

and of course we have the extra features called Blu-prints, and access granted... featuring tours of the season 3 sets, and damon and carton revealing some things not fully explained in seasons 1-3, and at the same time giving us a heads up of what to look out for in season 4

also there is the packaging... it all comes wrapped in a stylish 6 disc blu-ray holder... with an included pamphlet with episode and special feature summarys, and the whole thing is encased in a reflective cardboard holder that vel-cros shut... printed on the inside flap is a letter from carlton and damon saying thanks for buying this version, and how they are honered to be the first abc show to end up on blu-ray, they also elaborate on the exclusive features on this disc a bit (and ask to keep the information in these features from those who have not sprung for the shiny blu-ray version.. as if, lol) the discs also have simple blue labels with a few of the main characters on each disc... with the episode numbers on the disc below them

and there is also a welcome video when you play disc one... of damon and carlton talking about and showing the difference of the picture and sound quality in this set...

i did not buy my version with the thought of comparing the 2 versions or else i would have grabbed both versions.... i simply didnt know there were so many differances in between the 2 sets

Re: Differences between S3 on DVD and on Blu-Ray

I have both versions and the missing menu (since the DVD has an extra disc) is of sawyer in the polar bear cage in the rain.

You forgot to mention the greatest difference between the two sets. The great picture quality of 1080p. It is even better than I remember seeing it on the HD broadcast. Definitely glad they released an HD version and hopefully they will revisit season 1 and 2.

I have to say this really disappoints me. In order to get some of the answers to the show's many questions, you have to purchase a specific format and specific equipment? I personally don't have an HDTV or a Blu-Ray player, and probably won't until the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD war settles down a bit (and until I can afford to shell out several hundred bucks on it), but is there really any reason they couldn't have put the extras on a plain old DVD? I would think that Lindelof and Cuse would know better than to play their fans into expensive format wars just to get some plot resolution from the show.

Their answers really aren't anything most people don't already know for the most part.

Re: Differences between S3 on DVD and on Blu-Ray

sadly i dont see the format war ever ending.... both companies have advantages and backers, personally i have a PS3 i play blu-ray discs on.. and my girlfriend just got a Hd-dvd player for 199.99 for christmas.... and it comes with 2 movies in the box, great deal (and a stand alone Blu-ray player is hovering at a little over 300.00)

and everyone saying one or the other is better... the facts are, blu-ray is better quality video and holds up better (as well as more storage capacity) where as Hd-dvd is more affordable, but the quality is not as high, due to the less space each disc can accomidate.... but it also has the exclusive backing of paramount, and blu-ray also has its exclusive backers

its like saying Xbox360 and the PS3 are at war and one of them is going to go away sooner or later.... this is not true, and those who are waiting for the war to end, are never going to see it...

i dont want to start a flame war, but the fact of the matter is... neither format is going away anytime soon

(and as much as i like blu-ray more than Hd-dvd, i am begining to just not care)

I wouldn't say that, many people believe the war will end next year.

You should take a look at www.thedigitalbits.com

Re: Differences between S3 on DVD and on Blu-Ray

Thank you very much for your updates on the Blu Ray-version o the season three DVD set, Dangerzone & brermike!
Is there any way for you - or anybody else - to post some actual pictures of the packaging and discs, please?
As for the format war I tend to agree with Michael Bay ...

Having watched Carnivŕle I wish for Nick Stahl to portray "Charlie Pace" at least in the flash-sideways!

Re: Season Three DVD Easter Egg Thread

Rather a joke that the Blu ray version (also no HD DVD version? Humph) has extra stuff, as does the Box set if you ordered from play. I figured if we paid for it, we'd get the deleted scenes, not being made to buy three different copies of it and finding tons of easter eggs, just to view what i paid for.

I agree. If I wanted a game, I'd have bought the video game. This crap of putting out different versions is really starting to irk me. Am I supposed to run out and buy blu ray just so I can see a few scenes from Lost? Just show me the bloody deleted sceenes and bloopers. I don't care for these short back scenes being put out either. I enjoy the show, but I'm starting to feel like a sponge being squeezed.

Re: Differences between S3 on DVD and on Blu-Ray

Well since the B-D version is more expensive... you are indeed getting more for your money, if both versions were the same price... you guys would have a valid point

but even so... the bonus bonus features on the B-D version are not that impressive, and i really dont know if getting the entire set just for those few extra minutes of film (about 20-30 minutes of junk) is worth it.... what is worth it to me, is the quality of the audio and video in the episodes themselves in the release

it is a marketing move.. yeh, but it only depends on how much of a finatic you are as to whather it really bugs you or not... personally, as cool as those features are... they just dont match the hype the case gives them

as for why its not on HD-D well, buena vista is affiliated with disney, who currently has an exclusive agreement with sony for all their stuff to be on B-D, also i hate TV show releases on HD-D dont ask me why, they tend to be too cumbersome, and take a long time to load the menus, and episodes... and they just highlight all the flaws of that format.... now for movies, even i will agree that HD-D is awesome, but its not ment for TV show releases.... im sorry
