I enjoyed the episode, it wasn't as intense as The Constant but it was intense still, Juliet may still be a mystery and she may do whatever it takes to get off that Island but she is not out to hurt anyone unless there's no way out, she'd shoot Daniel and Charlotte in a heartbeat if she would. She sure is one badass lady though, she can fight!
As for the FB's I enjoyed them, I enjoyed the little we saw of the Goodwin/Juliet affair, the creepyness of Ben and I am feeling oddy sad for Locke being played by Ben like he is...Ben's playing Locke like a puppet on a string here cos Locke's so desperate to figure out the Island and it's mysteries..to understand it, he completely unaware of the (to me anyways) obvious alterior intentions that Ben has. Sorry Locke, dude you're being PLAYED in a major way!
Loved it. After the fast pace of The Constant, this was a nice change up. We have been seeing a lot of FF’s, Desmond flashing to the past and the present and in this episode, a FB. Juliet’s episodes are always good and Elizabeth Mitchell got to pull out every emotion in this one. None of her cool and calm faces, she put a range of feelings on the screen last night.. I loved the tender Jacket scene. Everything about it was beautiful and they even used that the music from SISL that was playing as Jack and Juliet stood together on the bow of the ship taking them to Otherville. Jacket has a love theme, just like Skate does.
The kiss was perfect under the circumstances. Juliet's face was injured in the fight and she didn't need a passionate kiss, she needed a tender one laced with caring. The Jacket hug reminded me of the beach reunion hug between Kate and Sawyer and Jack's comment about Ben knowing where to find him reminded me of Sawyer telling Kate he would keep her safe. Lots of parallels between Skate and Jacket last night. I like the way they are slowly building the relationship between Jack and Juliet and this was just the right step forward.
I was also pleased to see Jack cowboy up and kiss Juliet. Emotions were spilling out all over that scene and both EM and MF played it perfectly. The way they framed the hug at the end, through that long tunnel into the bright sunshine and green jungle was the first epic and romantic shot we have seen of Jack and a woman. It was the perfect way to launch a new phase of the Jacket story and move it to another level.

I registered that long shot of Jack and Juliet embracing and thought it was a lovely shot, but I didn't think about it further. I think them being outside in the sunshine is a really good metaphor, because I did feel a real sense of relief in them both at being able to cling to each other after both had known a long period of loneliness, which the tunnel signifies visually very well.
I found so much to like in this episode. It was a quiet episode, like Juliet, but with lots of depth and very satisfying to explore. I'm looking forward to rewatching it on the weekend.
Whispers were back, visions giving advice were back, using all the Losties was back, finding a new hatch was back and in the end we learned the identity of the big bad of this show. Wow. To be truthful I enjoyed this episode more than the proceeding one but concede The Constant was more significant to mythology and the writing more lyrical. I cried at the end of TC but I rolled around the floor alternating LMAO and screaming "no" all through this one! This was a fun episode. Ben was just so...Ben!
-This episode told us who the big bad is: Widmore.
-It told us we would recognize the name of Ben's spy and it would surprise us. I won't tell you who I think it is (coughmichaelcough)
-We leaned Locke doesn't have a plan but Ben does. I'm betting Ben's plan will be presented as Locke's plan very soon
This episode was about manipulation and motivation. It showed us what motivates two of the major characters and what they are willing to do to get what they want.
Juliet manipulated Jack
Juliet manipulated Goodwin
Ben manipulated Juliet
Ben manipulated Locke
Charlotte manipulated Daniel
We learned a lot about Juliet this week. She had no qualms about sleeping with a married man and doubtlessly humiliating his wife in the process just because she needed a shoulder. She was willing to risk Goodwin's life and now is willing to risk Jack's life while she plays damsel in distress. Goodwin bought her act and now so is Jack.
Juliet has always been a female version of Ben. Meanwhile back at the barracks Ben is manipulating Locke with other carrots (although Bocke shippers would rather have him using the same carrot as Juliet I'm sure).
This episode was as much about Ben as Juliet. We learned that Ben does not know how to love. He had no role models as a child so his attempts to woe Juliet are childish (but so cute to watch) and his reaction to her rejection is juvenile too. In the past we saw how Ben's possessiveness of Juliet is his Achilles heel. We learned how that started in this ep.
Random thoughts
-Loved that 3rd viewpoint of the plane crash. Hope someone puts them all together in a video for the S4 DVDs.
-Anyone think Ben has a number of safes in his house?
-Who did Juliet talk to in the rain? I doubt if it was Harper. It could have been Smokie since Juliet was recently "scanned". But she appeared (and disappeared) in the exact same way as tall Walt with the whispers proceeding her. How does she know about Ben? Is it the island talking?
-Daniel thought they were saving the island from Ben but he is being manipulated by Charlotte. What does she really want to accomplish at the Tempest?
Lines:
-This didn't have a number on it, did it?
-See you at dinner.
-I always have a plan.
Famous last words:
-What can Ben do? (spoken by Goodwin)
The Ben/Locke scenes were amazing! Left me really excited for the next episodes and to find out who's on the boat! I also really liked the Juliet/Charlotte/Dan scene about Ben!
About the flashback, I only have three words...Ben is creppy! Seriously, I would not like to be in Juliet's place! We all knew she wanted to get off the island to be with her sister, but knowing about Ben's obsession with her, and how that makes it more unlikely that she can ever leave makes me understand much better how desperately she wanted to leave and her frustration when Ben exploded the submarine.
Not to mention the Jack/Juliet kiss, I agree with LostTvFan that it was the perfect kiss under the circunstances. The way it happened, it was so romantic! And then what Jack said after that, about Ben knowing where to find him, he won't let Ben keep him away from Juliet. And of course, then there was the hug, the way they were holding on to each other...beautiful!!
Loved it! M.E seemed to be totally enjoying his role as Juliets' creepy suitor
Loved all the scenes with Juliet and Ben, they are great together as are Ben and Locke as usual.
Fantastic final scene with Sawyer, Hurley and Ben in Othersville "see you at dinner"
Jack and Juliets scene together outside of the station was perfect
i really liked the way this episode was woven into the story we already know - lots of stuff confirmed and clarified - im surprised at the amount of negative reaction but i guess this was one for the fans that really know lost and could appreciate the attention to detail.
I also really like this episode. I think most of the complaints in the negative thread are just becoming a general "What's wrong with Lost?" thread again. Also I don't like TT so it's nice there was none of it in this ep.
I think it showed the Others in an interesting way seeing as they're the "bad guys" of the show....it makes them very complicatedly bad, which I love.
