This may have been mentioned elsewhere but I'm posting it here as I don't see a Season 4 characters thread started specifically for her yet.
I found it very interesting that Locke emphasized "Staples" as her middle name, which can only mean that the writers have given her the name of Charlotte Staples Lewis in reference to Clive Staples Lewis...C.S. Lewis. C.S. Lewis also attended Oxford University(and taught at), as did Charlotte. She is a female "Indiana Jones"-type character and seems to thrive on adventure and discovery and C.S. Lewis also loved fantasy and adventure- his favorite books as a child were "Treasure Island" and "The Secret Garden" http://www.factmonster.com/spot/narnia-lewis.html He is the writer of the Narnia series of books, beginning with the "Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". I absolutely love the connection!
I didn't know that C.S Lewis' favourite books were "Treasure Island" and "The Secret Garden" which both ironically draw a certain similarity to Craphole Island.
Anyway, from what we have seen so far I really like the character of Charlotte, she is definately the most shifty of the Freighties so far and can't wait to get to know her! I really liked her reaction to both being shot and Ben recounting the information about her. She definately has some sort of prior knowledge about the island and I think that could be integral to the reveals to come about what exactly the island is.
The whole, otherworldly place accessed in an unlikely, secret way populated by usurpers of power and position, with its concerns of primogeniture and dead then alive again kings aside ….please :
This C.S. Lewis is instantly likeable – bit gads it’s going to wear thin quickly! I’m afraid she’s a bit too much like aspartame for my taste. Very nice if you like that sort of thing – and what’s to complain about really, but…
Hand me a lemon for balance. I hope she proves a clever villain – I’d like a threat in Team Green beyond Ben, of whom I’ve grown fond – but if all she has in her armoury is womanly wiles, or - god forbid! - she uses the word ‘daddy’ …I hope Smokey eats her.
I don't understand why Charlotte strikes you as saccharine, LL. The first we see of her, she's all cynicism ("how many languages are there?") and aggressive determination. Yeah, the smiley-in the-water stuff, I get you, but I think we're going to find out more about what made her so happy to realize she was on the island, and it's going to be interesting, probably something anti-Dharma. Besides, I don't trust her: what sweetness she had with Team Locke was feigned. I think she's gonna be a doozy.
In any case, her reply to Locke when he said "what good would you be to me dead," along the lines of "Oh thanks I feel much better now" was as sour a piece of sarcasm as we've seen-- and I loved it!

Do you think Charlotte's family is in office supplies, just a joke. Charlotte strikes me as a bit naive. As if she's done all of the reading on the island but actually being theis is already proving to be something different. I think she may have been lied to about her group's true mission, she seems to genuinely believe they're on the island to rescue the losties or she's a good liar.
I think her character is interesting so far. She didn't have many lines in this episode, but did anyone notice when Sayid brings her back, he puts his arm around her shoulder and she sort of makes a disgusted face and shrugs him off. Her reaction was subtle, but I thought it was funny.
