Observations on Deus Ex Machina

Here are some of things that I noticed in "Deus Ex Machina" as well as some questions that arose from tonight's episode:

1.* The mouse trap game - kind of a metaphor for what happened to Locke with his kidney.* All the pieces came together and in the end he was used and trapped.* Also possibly what is going on with the hatch?*
2.* Locke was raised in several foster homes.
3.* We found out that Locke's mother decided to put him up for adoption and told his father she was not going to have the baby....if what Mr.* Cooper said was true.
4. Locke's mother has Schizophrenia.*
5.* Even though we know Locke's mother has been in mental institutions, the Immaculate conception and her "part of a design" comment seemed odd.
6.* Locke's mothers name is Emily Annebette Locke
7.* Why does Locke have so much faith in the island showing him what to do next?*
8.* Locke's dream - Teresa, the plane and Bloody Boone.* The significance of Teresa seemed to be to convince Boone to continue with Locke to find the plane.* The significance of the plane seemed to be to get Boone to get hurt.* Bloody Boone obviously was a Premonition of what was going to occur. It appeared the Hatch would only open for Locke without Boone.*
9.* Locke has no family of his own
10.* Locke says he never hunted before, but kills the bird very easily when hunting.* Makes me believe he had hunted before.* At the very least he had used a gun before.
11.* Michael is picking up some Korean
12.* Sawyer's uncle had a brain tumor
13.* Sawyer/Jack tension seems to be easing more
14.* Anthony Cooper is Locke's fathers name
15.* Drug smugglers had been on the island anywhere from 2-10 years.
16.* Locke had been paralyzed for 4 years.
17.* Boone's mother wasn't always there for him.* When he was 6 his nanny Teresa fell down the stairs and died.
18.* Drugs were smuggled in statues of Mary.
19.* Drug smugglers were from Nigera?* Why were they in the south pacific....or are they in not in the south pacific?
20.* Locke again lies about what happened to Boone.* Does Locke not want them to get off the island?* If they find the plane they could possibly still use the radio if it was not damaged.* He also does not want them to know about the hatch.*
21.* Sawyers glasses half white/half black
22.* In Boone's radio conversation the person from the outside says that "There were No survivors of Oceanic 815"

The episodes seem to be getting very island oriented now, which is great.* Maybe we will finally get some FRIGGIN ANSWERS, to quote the big man.* Poor Locke, the guy seems to have had a hard life...now he may have caused someone else's demise.* Good episode but I know at least one person on this board predicted pefectly what would happen to Boone, so I wasn't too suprised.* Discuss.* * * *

23. Boone is now amongst the list of survivors who have a death on his/her conscience.

Yeah I missed that one, and it looks like Locke may have one too.

Re: My Observations on Deus Ex Machina

The use of the word "Son"-
Anthony calls Locke "Son" during the hunting trip.
Locke calls Boone "Son" right before they find the plane.

After Locke and Boone were both called "Son", something bad happened. *Anthony betrayed Locke by only using him to get a new kidney. *Boone was extremely injured doing something for Locke, and Locke runs off when Jack starts asking questions. *

We got this info from the PI, are we sure he wasn't in on the scam?

It seemed to me to suggest the Locke and Daddy had been out hunting quite a few times already when Locke shot down that bird.

Re: My Observations on Deus Ex Machina

leesha I thought the SAME thing about Locke calling Boone son - I was even wondering if there could be any connection (I know there is not) between Boone and Locke. Lockes father is not in the picture only his mother.

Anyway, JMO.

Close to my thoughts. I think the island temporarily took Locke's legs so he would not be able to go up in the unstable plane. He would have to send Boone, knowing Boone would want to please him. Locke let's Boone go. Granted, he yells at Boone to come out, but the temptation of the radio was too much, he couldn't come out.

The island has it's sacrifice, Locke gets his legs back.

Re: My Observations on Deus Ex Machina

Locke's mother said Locke was a result of immaculate conception. When Boone went into the plane, he found the statues of Mary that were filled w/ heroin (they were stashed away in a cabinet). When he threw one down, it burst into a million pieces at Locke's feet revealing the heroin.
The Mary statues could be symbolic of Locke's ideology of his mother being shattered to bits leaving him with her core which is a rotten, addictive substance. *It could also be symbolic of Boone's relationship w/ his mother (not what things seem) or of his Nanny (mother figure but fell and was killed). Hmmmmm....
Were there other Mary *references?

Also - how psyched is Charlie going to be knowing that there is a plane full of heroin on the island? Will he relapse?

Nice... very observant.

And I don't think we're going to see the heroin make a reappearance. It would cheapen Charlie's recovery too much. I don't think the audience or the writers want to go through a whole new round of Charlie wanting drugs. Where could they go with it that we haven't already been?

But great points you made about the statues.
