OK...this was stated on another thread...there is a real life Hugo Reyes. He is a student at a California college. Anyway, his father was kidnapped.
I bet you my feet that Hurleys dad is kidnapped by drug smugglers that are owed money by Hurley. THATS the problems he put his family through that he was referring to in his flashback story.
Either Hurley was on the plane that Boone & Locke found, or there is evidence on that plane that Hurley was involved in drug smuggling.
Either way, the other castaways are going to fiqure this out and he is going ot be left on the island while the others escape. THATS how the numbers are put back into "limbo" where they cant cause harm to anyone. Noone else will know about the number combination, and the ones that do know about them will once again be "quarantined"
Danielle and Hurley...on the island
Lenny...in the crazy bin
If Hurley already was on the island prior to the crash we have to clear a few things up
What about his flashbacks ? There seems to be a few issues that would "prevent" Hurley from really being on the island before flight 815 crashed
But this theory is interesting anyway
Hurley was the one who had the idea for the census, he was the only custodian of all the informations about passengers, he could have easily faked it, saying that his name was on the manifest when he really wasn't on the plane
He could also have used it to frame Ethan, who Hurley knows he also wasn't on the plane, in an effort to get rid of him
well that's a nice theory, but how do the flashbacks fit in there
Hurley is quite young, that does not leave a lot of time between the lottery win, and his arrival on the island
I just don't think that the writers would feed us a fake flashback, and the Danielle/Hurley scene in Numbers just to hide that Hurley came on the island before flight 815
The small plane seems to be on that island for a few years at least
Im not sure if he was on the island before or not.* But maybe he owned the plane with the drugs that went down.* My theory is he doesnt know that plane is there yet.* One of the other castaways is going to explore that plane and find evidence of Hurley on the plane, thus connecting him to a drug cartel.* Remember in his flashback, he was pulled over by the police.* They were convinced he was a drug dealer.* So convinced in fact, that they must have messed him up pretty bad or violated his civil rights bad enough that Hurley got a settlement in court.

Maybe the cops WERE right?????
well Jorge Garcia was in another TV show (curb your enthusiasm) and he played a drug dealer
That scene was merely an inside joke
My one problem with it, though, is that the cops let him go with apologies after the wrongful arrest. If he were a true suspect or even had a rap sheet, the LAPD would not have apologized. (Did they apologize? I suddenly feel like I'm not remembering correctly) Plus, the scene was supposed to be an example of how bad Hurley's luck became after he used the numbers, and a reason for why Hurley thought the numbers were cursed. If they had good reason to arrest him, the whole "curse" issue wouldn't come into play.
Still, it would be very cool to tie-in Hurley to the other plane somehow.
Its called a front. To keep the cops off their backs, drug dealers have easy low profile jobs that make them look less suspicious.
That way, if they are pulled over with a little bit of money, and the cops ask "Where did you get this money" they say " I work at the chicken joint."
Plus it gives them reason to own a house, car, nice things. If they dont work and are running around with new cars and money, that raises a red flag in a heartbeat.
